I am an American liberal. On the political scale i would lean to the left in most political issues. For a long time I wanted to visit Sweden since I admired this countries social welfare system, education and public healthcare. Here I am. I rent a car and drove from Stockholm to Dalarna and a couple of days ago I met a guy at the hostel I am staying at, who told me he was liberal. But to my suprise the liberal party of Sweden is in government with the conservative camp of Moderaterna, Centerpartiet and Kristdemokraterna. Could someone help me understand why swedish liberals are to the right?
When ones say "liberal" in the U.S., it refers to the politics that are left-oriented. The Liberals or Liberal Party in Sweden is more middle section of the spectrum. You can read about it on wikiipedia. I guess if you compare the political spectrum in Sweden and the United States, American policy is probably skewed more right in general. Democrats in the U.S. are more conservative than the Social Democrats in Sweden. Moderates in Sweden are less conservative than Republican.Föreslå ändring
